Three measurement studies
for cello and double bass
2024
for cello and double bass
2024
Study 1: imperial lengths / metric durations
Lengths are measured with a specially made paper ruler fixated to the fingerboard. Durations are measured with a stopwatch.
Study 2: anthropometric lengths / intuitive durations
Lengths are measured with different body parts (inch, palm, spam, cubit). Durations are agreed upon in the moment.
Study 3: proportional lengths / action-determined durations
Lengths are measured by dividing the previous length by two. Durations are determined by the action of bowing twice.
first performance: 17.03.2024 / Klaus-Linder-Saal, Musikakademie Basel
cello: James Morley
double bass: Pietro Elia Barcellona
